As part of the collaboration between the Ladies, Wine & Design Slovakia, and East Slovak gallery, I coordinated and produced a small exhibition in the pop-up store in the gallery. ESG, as well as LW&D Slovakia, reflects the unbalanced representation of female authors, not only in the gallery's collections but also in other creative industries, and through various activities, they try to deal with this problem. VSG takes a symbolic commission fee from the works to cover the minimum costs associated with production, with 90% of the amount going directly to the authors.
So far, 36 artworks from 14 female artists could only be purchased in person, so people would come to the gallery to support designers and illustrators, locality, and slowness. During the production of the exhibition, we tried not to create unnecessary waste, and we used everything we already had available in the gallery, especially frames and mounts.
The idea for this project arose at the end of last year. As the exhibition opened against the background of tragic historical events, together with the authors, we decided to donate the entire proceeds from the first sold graphics from each of them to the civic association Mareena, whose main mission is to create a safe home for everyone in our country through various integration and community activities, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, and religion.
